Sites for efoil surfing

So, you’ve just bought an electric foil but you don’t know where to use it or what the restrictions are? Here we’ll share all the essential advice for enjoying efoil surfing safely and legally!

Do you dream about flying above the water? Then efoil surfing is for you!

What are the best areas to choose?

  • A calm lake or a calm, wide and deep river
  • On rivers and lakes, enquire about the areas reserved for watercraft and the speeds permitted.
  • On the sea: a calm bay or a creek without waves
  • When on the sea, setting off from the coast, move slowly (slower than 5 knots or 9km/h) and without flying until you are more than 300 meters from the shore.
  • Whatever the situation, you should enquire with the local authorities.

What areas should you avoid?

  • Beaches with shore breaks
  • Inside ports: the speed is limited to 3 knots in ports, 5 knots in port access channels (depending on local rules) and up to 300 metres from the shore (from the water line). In theory, there are no speed restrictions beyond the 300-metre limit.
  • Shallow water (NB: the efoil has a one-metre draught)
You are strongly recommended to use your efoil on calm water, without the presence of:
  • Swimmers
  • Boats
  • Fishing nets
  • Seaweed
  • Floating waste
